Kiwi Generally Uncertain Late Thursday,Friday, April 20, 2007 1:09:05 AM

Late Thursday in New York, the New Zealand dollar largely showed an uncertain trend against the other major currencies. The Japanese February industry activity index and the Australian February conference board leading index, the import and the export price index for Q1 which were released during the session caused very little price action in the Kiwi against the Yen and the Aussie respectively.

The New Zealand currency trended higher against its U.S. counterpart in the evening hours on Thursday. At about 7:00 pm ET, the pair slipped slightly but it rebounded after about an hour. The Kiwi lost ground again at about 8:50 pm ET and touched as low as 0.7425 by about 10:55 pm ET. The pair then made some advances but has been ticking down again lately. As of 1:07 am Eastern Time Friday, a Kiwi was quoted at 0.7432 against the Buck.

During late Thursday in New York, the European currency was uncertain versus the New Zealand dollar. The euro started to trade higher at about 9:25 pm ET but it gave back most of its gains within about a couple of hours. In the overnight deals on Friday, the euro has been reversing the recent losses and collected 1.83 Kiwi as of 1:07 am Eastern Time.

To the Yen, the New Zealand dollar showed choppy trading on late Thursday evening in New York. However, the Kiwi gained momentum at about 8:20 pm ET and hit as high as 88.43 within about an hour. Soon after, the pair ticked down and then showed a choppy trend again. As of 1:07 am Eastern Time Friday, a Kiwi was worth 88.18 Yen.

Ahead of the release of the Australian February conference board leading index, the import and the export price index for Q1, the Australian currency moved sideways against the Kiwi during late Thursday. The pair extended the same trend amid the releases. The Aussie strengthened slightly at about 10:10 pm ET but it followed a sideways movement again soon after. As of 1:07 am Eastern Time Friday, an Aussie fetched 1.1217 Kiwi.
