Eastern European Currencies Mostly Choppy, Friday, May 18, 2007 10:02:17 AM

The rouble and zloty were choppy against the buck and euro in trading on Friday, while the forint was weak. The Eastern European currencies traded with little economic news from the area.

The Russian rouble was mixed against the buck on Friday as it bounced between a high of 25.8208 and a low of 25.8658. In general, the rouble is at a weekly low. Against the euro, the rouble held between a high of 34.8304 and a low of 34.8867. On the whole, the Russian currency is at a five week high.

The zloty moved between a high of 2.8019 and a low of 2.8142 in trading against the buck on Friday. Overall, the Polish currency is at a weekly low against the currency. Versus the euro, the Polish currency bounced between a high of 3.7812 and a low of 3.7934 into the mid morning. Generally, the zloty is at a monthly low.

The Hungarian forint edged down against the buck to 186.090 in trading on Friday. On the whole, the forint is at its lowest point since the end of March. In trading with the euro, the forint slipped to 250.889. On the whole, the Hungarian currency is at a two month low.
