Dollar Advanced Against Southeast Asian Counterparts Late Thursday, Friday, May 18, 2007 1:41:18 AM
During late Thursday in New York, the US currency made advances against its Southeast counterparts like the Singapore dollar, the Hong Kong dollar and the Thai Baht. However, the US dollar traded in a tight range versus the Malaysian currency.Against the other major Asian currencies, the Japanese Yen largely showed choppy trading versus the dollar and the pair moved between 121.22 and 121.38. On the other hand, the dollar drifted higher against the South Korean Won and the Indian Rupee.
The US currency showed strength versus the Singapore dollar in the evening deals on Thursday. At about 8:15 pm ET, the Greenback shed a few pips and then traded sideways until the pair ticked higher again at about 10:45 pm ET. Of late the Greenback has been moving further higher and traded at 1.5286 against the Singapore dollar as of 1:40 am Eastern Time Friday.
Against the Hong Kong dollar, the Buck started trending higher at 8:45 pm ET Thursday. The pair thus moved from 7.8190 to 7.8231 by about 11:30 pm ET. Soon after, the Buck declined slightly and it was quoted at 7.8221 Hong Kong dollars as of 1:40 am Eastern Time Friday.
At about 8:00 pm ET Thursday, the US dollar gained some momentum versus the South Korean Won, but the pair entered a tight range within a few minutes. However, the dollar made a sharp spike higher by about 11:10 pm ET and has been continuing its uptrend lately. As of 1:40 am Eastern Time Friday, a dollar collected 933.9000 Won.
During the late hours on Thursday in New York, the US dollar showed choppy trading against its Indian counterpart. At about 11:30 pm ET, off 40.5750 the dollar advanced to 40.9350 within a few minutes. The dollar then slid briefly and as of 1:40 am Eastern Time Friday, it was worth 40.8900 Rupees.
The Greenback ticked up versus the Thailand currency on late Thursday in New York. After collecting as much as 33.2450 by about 11:00 pm ET, the pair held steady.
