Forex News: 28.02.2007 Annual inflation in the euro area down to 1.8%
Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, reported today that the harmonized consumer price index fell in the euro area by 0.5% in January, compared with 0.4% increase in December.Annual inflation was 1.8%, compared with 1.9% in the preceding month. The analysts expected that annual inflation would remain unchanged 1.9% for the period under report. It is important to note that, in 2006 the level of annual inflation was 2.4%.
Core inflation (consumer price index excluding food and energy) fell in January by 0.8% in a month and rose by 1.8% in a year.
